Supporting management and leadership development...

As we've said on our 'Training' page - 'the people are the 'engine' of the business; engines need to be oiled, tuned and looked after on a regular basis to keep the machine working and moving onwards....'

Mentoring is derived from the Greek word meaning 'enduring'. In order to succeed in today's competitive environment more and more companies, businesses and managers are creating workplace climates where their people are encouraged to continually learn, develop and grow.

We view mentoring as a vital part of the learning journey as we see it as a critial (and increasingly popular) support element of the management and leadership development journey. It can work to increase self-confidence when becoming familiar with a new role, increased responsibilities or a new organisations culture and will challenge people to go further, take risks, set new goals and achieve at a higher personal and/or professional level.

Using our own relevant 'been there, done that' experience, we often incorporate mentoring sessions into the roadmaps we create so that we can indeed offer clients the best possible chances of success.

And we also offer this on a stand-alone basis for individuals; mentoring can be used specifically and separately as a form of long term tailored development for the individual or to bring benefits to an organisation. The characteristics of mentoring are:

  • It is essentially a supportive form of development.
  • It focuses on helping individuals manage their career and improve their skills.
  • Personal issues can be discussed more productively on an individual basis - this is where mentoring differs from coaching as coaching usually places the emphasis purely on performance at 'work'.
  • Mentoring activities have both organisational and individual goals.
